FEEDBACK

Feedback is incredibly important both in the exchange of knowledge and the organisation of a master:CLASS. Feedback can be collected in a traditional way through the use of feedback sheets, which allows both masters and the class to report back the thoughts and feelings towards the sessions. At the same time, this can be done digitally through feedback applications which have been developed by others and can usually be accessed for free (a number of these are listed below).

Allowing people who attend your master:CLASS to voice their thoughts on how the class went. This allows issues to be highlighted, but also to relay what went well and what people enjoyed. By doing this, it will not only help those who attended to consolidate the knowledge which has been exchanged, but also help you as a facilitator to further understand the best way to organise your master:CLASS so that knowledge is transferred in the best way for everyone.

It should also be noted that feedback not only comes after a master:CLASS is finished and there is constant feedback between people as knowledge is shared. Either through facial expression or the way in which words are understood, feedback is always happening and this should be taken into consideration and can be used. Asking the class to write down how they understand a term which was spoken about is a good way of utilising this natural feedback.

NEARPOD

Nearpod can be used both in a classroom setting, and for a remote master:CLASS. Masters can prepare presentations in powerpoint / keynote etc, and then upload them into the app, ready to be delivered to the class . The use of a voting function in the app allows for instant feedback for the tutor as well as the ability to monitor and measure student results, should this be required.

May be useful as an interactive way to share master:CLASSES on how to learn specific skills.

SOCRATIVE

Socrative allows you to assess the knowledge exchange that is taking place in a master:CLASS. You can remove the ‘fear of failure’ element to answering questions by allowing the class to vote using their personal devices. You can also mark, and feedback on an individual basis to people attending. It can also be used to gain feedback, and for younger classes there is a fun element to the app, with the space race quiz.

Although useful this app format enforces the strict hierarchy of Master and class. However, it may have applications in a master:CLASS if it is a large group and instant feedback is helpful.

QUICKTAPSURVEY

QuickTapSurvey allows you to create surveys easily for free, which is designed to collect data using iPads, iPhones and Android devices without an internet connection. The survey can be written on the website through a simple interface and downloaded to the QuickTapSurvey app. The survey can then be used offline to collect feedback from a master:CLASS. Once you have an internet connection, the responses can be uploaded back to the website to be reviewed.

Great app to use when getting feedback quickly from people who have attended a master:CLASS without having to deal with lots of pieces of paper. However, the free plan only allows the use of one device to record feedback which can limit the amount people you can receive feedback from.

SURVEY MONKEY

One of the most popular ways to create an online survey which can be easily sent via email or posted on to social media platforms. Survey Monkey is a great way of getting overall feedback from an event or even to get feedback on how a curriculum is progressing in the long term. Whereas QuickTapSurvey can be used on a tablet or mobile device to generate feedback in person, immediately after a master:CLASS, Survey Monkey allows you to reconnect with the class that attended after the event, possibly creating lasting networks.

The website is very useful for easily collecting feedback and responses form a large number of people. However, it is worth being aware that due to detach way it which these surveys are sent out, the volume of response will probably be significantly lower than the in-person survey.

SHOWME

ShowMe is an open online learning community which allows anyone to learn and teach any topic. This is a platform that can be used to create a video/visually explained master:CLASS that can be shared digitally. The app lets you easily create and share video master:CLASSES, which can consist of video, photos and live drawing within the finished video output.

While allowing for the creation of videos on a simple interface, the app does not allow for direct feedback on the app, besides the ability to ‘like’ the video. It could, however, be used as a way of disseminating a physical master:CLASS after the event.
